Professional Profile
I came from Cuba when I was eight years old. While I learned English in school, my grandmother, who had been a teacher in Cuba, gave me a very formal education in Spanish language and grammar, which lasted until my high school graduation. Thus, I grew up being totally bilingual. In college, I majored in Spanish and French, and my university studies included two years in Madrid, Spain, and in Dijon and Rennes, France.
Ever since I began my professional life, I have been involved in translation and interpretation, mainly because at the time I was the only Spanish-speaking person available at my place of employment. This fact, however, resulted in the development of excellent translation and interpretation skills. When I retired from my position as a federal government attorney in 2000, I dedicated myself to medical interpretation, and later, to translation. I am a WA State Certified Medical Translator and have a Certificate in Translation from the University of Toronto Continuing Studies, as well as certifications in medical and health interpretation from several certifying associations.
I have done translation work in both Spanish to English and English to Spanish, the latest being two novels, The Forest's Edge by Inés Galiano and Cold Spring by Bernadette Walsh. I also recently finished proofreading and copy-editing BRIDGING, by Penny Reid, a book written in English, with Spanish mixed in. All three books are available through Amazon.com.

2013 to Present: Several translation projects, including DVD Jacket for www. chairdancing.com, charity translation for Dr. Jay Childrens' Grief Program in Toronto, Canada, Spanish to English translation of The Forest's Edge by Inés Galiano, English to Spanish translation of Cold Spring by Bernadette Walsh, and proofreading and copy-editing of Bridging, by Penny Reid.
