5. Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Lima-Peru December 2004 – May 2014
Assistant-Translator in the Cultural and Information Section

I was in charge of the Cultural, Tourism and Information Section, a job I carried out for 9 years and 6 months. I translated the daily news from Spanish into English and vice versa at times, mostly related to social problems and culture. Sometimes, I had to translate news related to the embassy’s social events, political and consular matters, and various other documents such as emails, letters, and certificates, amongst others. Moreover, I prepared letters for the Ambassador and the diplomat in charge of the Cultural Section, assisting them, managing their agenda, arranging their meetings, making phone calls, reservations and preparing speeches, Power Point presentations as well as reports. Part of my job was to coordinate and arrange the execution of cultural programs and events carried out by the Embassy in cooperation with other institutions. For that matter, I learnt to prepare press releases informing about such cultural events in order to be uploaded in our website. In addition to this, I promoted Indonesian tourism by providing information to Peruvians, giving them advice and recommendations when was necessary. Since we always tried to promote tourism, I translated brochures we received from the Ministry of Tourism and I did my best reading and proofreading such translations so maybe the other Indonesian embassies located in Spanish speaking countries could use them as well.

During 10 months, I assisted the political and consular sections by preparing verbal and diplomatic notes to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs soliciting information, candidature support and all the privileges granted to members of this Diplomatic Mission. During this time, I was in charge of reviewing every visa application so they were filled out correctly.

Likewise, when it was required, I assisted the diplomats by providing interpretation services, mostly during short interviews or meetings, in some cases, at high rank meetings.
